Hi I am planing on building a Solsylva machine I am planing on following the 24"X48" build with a little change building it 24"X36" I am ordering the 3 Axis Electronics Kit G540 from CNC Router Parts.

I was planing on using hardwood for the build and acme Leadscrews.

This will be my first build I have noticed there is a wealth of knowledge here If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to do so.

I have a question maybe someone can help on acme Leadscrews what would be a good choice?

1/2-8 2 start will get you 175-250 ipm.
If you want to go faster, then get 1/2-8 4 start, or 1/2-10 5 start.

Gerry which would you recommend and where is a good place to purchase. Correct me if I am wrong more speed less on the stepper motors but less power? I looked at McMaster-Carr and I see different types could you help me with which ones are better or Maybe you know of a other source?

I might be wrong, but I think you get less speed but better resolution with fewer starts.. and higher speed with less resolution with more starts.. However the screws with more starts have less friction (smoother)...

I'm not sure if torque/power is an issue so much... but things like resonance and stalling are...

So you gotta decide which is more important to you.. speed or accuracy...

I dunno, but more starts might be a good idea on the X and Y axis where fewer starts might be a better idea on the Z axis where the distance traveled is minimal in comparison...

I might be wrong, but I think you get less speed but better resolution with fewer starts.. and higher speed with less resolution with more starts..

Even the 5 start screws will have better resolution (about double) than what the rack and pinion users have. Don't use a single start screw on the Z axis, as it will limit the entire machine.

Thank you guys for your help I am scraping the idea of Solsylva build and have decided to buy a kit from Fine line I will start a build thread there with plenty of pictures thanks again.
