Sharp edge on Cut & Auto Torch Height Control

Hey Guys- So I'm cutting some 11ga SS. I am using a FC 40amp Tip, running at 40amps @ 90ipm, running with 72-73psi of nitrogen. I am using a Hypertherm 1000. It’s cutting really well but is leaving a small bit of slag on the underneath side that is almost razor sharp. When I cut with air it doesn't leave that sharp edge but then the edge finish isn't near as good. I was just wondering if anyone had any pointers on how (if possible) to get that edge to go away. We have gotten a few Samples from the company "Retro" that makes tables and those parts have a nicer edge with no sharp slag edge. Just wanted to know if the Torchmate could produce those same qualities of cuts with maybe a few tweaks from what I’m doing now.

Also on the Auto Torch Height control the lowest I can get the amps to go is 100. is there anything i can do to lower this? the reason being is when I’m cutting steel and have it set at 100 it keeps the torch around 3/16 to 1/4" away from the part and I’d like it to be more in the 1/8 to 3/16" range. Didn’t know if there was anything I could do?

    Thanks!

Mike from Torchmate??? You out there??

this AVHC is really bugging me. like i said, i can't get the voltage programmed lower than 100 and i would like it around 85-90 when cutting steel to bring the torch lower to the material. My dial is all the way down and it's at 100. anything I can do????

First off, I would always say your 3 basic cut quality factors are Speed, Height, and Amperage. By changing any of these 3 things, you will see a difference in your height. Second, 3/16" to 1/4" is probably too far off the material for this material at 40 amps, the 1/8" number to 3/16" sounds much more true.

The Red Screen AVHC box uses a potentiometer dial to adjust the Arc Voltage, if you can not set it lower than 100, a simple replacement should fix that problem. We sell the replacement at $30 for the exact replacement, or you can source one yourself. I believe it is a 10 turn 5,00 ohm potentiometer. If you remove the old one it should be tagged with the specifications.
