I was having trouble with dust getting into my machine - particularly the axis for the table (it's shorter than the gantry, and the way the thing is laid out, I'm calling that one the Y-axis). This is a particular problem in our shop as we need to keep the humidity fairly high (45+% - it keeps the guitars from cracking, and helps to close the cracks when they do happen), so the dust combines with the moisture in the air and the grease for the bearings to make a really awful mess.

So, in an attempt to minimize the problem, I made a set of way covers for the Y-axis. The fabric is PVC coated nylon from McMaster-Carr, and getting the folds to hold was awful.

At any rate, I got the back cover mounted last night, and took a quick video. I had a thing I had to cut in Friday when just the front cover was on, though and it seemed to make a world of difference - certainly, it caught a lot of dust.

I think I still need to do one for the X-axis, but I'm going to try this for a while first. If I had the tools, I'd probably have made them of sheet metal and avoided the fabric, because I'm pretty sure it would be easier!!
