    Rigid Tapping Problem

    Hi All,

I have a 1992 Mycenter 1 with Fanuc OMD controls and having a problem with rigid taping the tap breaks as the machine is reversing out of the hole. Sometimes I can tap many holes but have to chase the threads it seems they get a little messed up at the very top of the hole. Sometimes I can tap three holes then the tap pops. My RPM is 352 and feed of 11 using an 8/32 spiral cut tap in a blind hole. I’m drilling 0.320” tapping 0.2” deep. Any ideas of what the problem could be?

What material are you tapping? What is your actual hole size before tapping? What is the minor diameter after tapping? What is the required minimum percentage of thread? Are you tapping with coolant or tapping fluid? Are you using a dwell at the bottom of the hole? Do you mean a spiral point tap or a spiral flute tap?
