Hi all,

Looking to purchase a HM45 sized mill in the next month or 2, in terms of supplier it's come down to Hare & Forbes here in Melbourne for $2095 (hoping to talk them down...) or (barring no other bids) Ozmestore's copy for $1495 + $270 for freight across to melbourne.

Obviously pricewise Ozmestore's offering is more attractive, however, their spindle motor is rated at only 0.75kw, whilst the HM45 from Hare & Forbes is rated at 1.1kw.

From memory, Ozmestore's offering has a slightly larger table too.

Is this 0.75kw motor going to be enough for the usual materials? (ie mild steel, SS, aluminium?)

Anything else i should be concerned about purchasing from Ozmestore in relation to warranty and the like?

Thanks Gazza, i do actually plan on dropping in to Standaco shortly to have a look at their DM45, however i'm hoping to get the mill for under $2k where possible.

I can highly recommend looking at Titan machinery.

And their ZAY7045FG (Motor: 1.5 kw, single-phase, 220V)

I purchased one of these recently and (although I'm just a beginner) it's a machine beyond my capabilities. CNC underway.

Look carefully at the accessories included with the machine.
My Titan included:

• 125mm machine vice
• 8pc collet chuck set
• Keyless drill chuck 1-13mm
• Stand
• Chip tray
• 58pc clamp set
• Face cutter
• Work lamp

The OzMe & Standaco offerings didn't include these, I wanted them anyway, and when I priced them separately, Titan was better value, and I hit the ground rolling.

I found Stuart very helpful both before and after the sale. He'll make an effort to find cost-effective shipping and you may well end up with more for your money than a local shop would provide.

It's also handy that they're all copies. I've gone 10min up the road to Hare & Forbes and gotten HM45 spares (broke the oil sight-glass).

the difference between the two is hare and forbes fully test run there machines and mesure the tables for strightness. ozmestore is pot luck off the pallet. hence cheeper price.

The last machine I got from Hare & Forbes was still in the crate from Chine, they definately didn't test it or even open the crate!

Hare & Forbes have much higher overheads, with a massive warehouse and glossy catalogues compared to other online sellers. That is more likely the reason for the price difference.

Well, i guess to update an old thread, i ended up purchasing the DM45 from Standaco back in Jan, got it for a very good price. I would certainly recommend buying from them instead of Hafco.

The bold two are my current picks - the cheapy is a generic X2 clone and it should take an X2 CNC kit out of the box (haven't tested it, but it looks like it). If not, the other two cheapies would be better.

Standco is a great recommendation, I was looking at the Titan before but this is cheaper and in Victoria. I've got to consult the finances but I'm keen to get one of these.

So, how's your conversion going?

Another to consider is the BF20 Opti mill, which is $1400 from www.appliedmachinery.com.au, located in Dandenong. This is the same as the Opti BF20 sold in Germany, very nice machine, especially for the price.

Oooh, that's nice. It's the 500mm X travel that matters, since that's the most I've been able to find under $3k, and finding it on a $1400 mill is excellent. Where did you find the price though - I can't see it on their site and a search doesn't turn anything up.

I went down and spoke to the salesman Tony, sorry forgot that that price is ex GST, but they will discount by 10% if you hassle them a bit.
I am looking to purchase one in a few weeks with another couple of people, and he offered us the 10% if we bought all three of them together.
It is a really nice machine, scraped ways, very smooth operation, variable speed DC motor up to 3000rpm and it comes with the stand included in the price.

Hmm, do I also suspect a group buy of CNC bits for them is in the offing?

Ohh yes! We already have most of the tooling, arrived yesterday from CTC tools in HK (Great stuff from them), but I will be ordering ballscrews from linearmotion on ebay, and motors and controllers from Keling pretty soon. Happy to add another lot of stuff if you are interested!

am abou tot purchase the titan tm45fg and was wondering any help or tips on how to convert it to a cnc.

am a noob i guesses you will need Ballscrew and would you need linear raills aswell or do you use the ones on the machine and advice would be appreciated down from Sydney

It's just like any RF45 clone...

You don't NEED to upgrade to ballscrews, but it's good for accuracy.
No need for linear rails, the standard dovetailed ways should be fine.
