    Looking for an e-clip alternative.

After using my smithy for a few months those dang e-clips are really starting to peeve me off.

Each time I need to do a gear change I get out the screw driver, start pushing an e-clip off the gear shaft, I hear a PING! and it sails across the shop.

Anyone know where I can get those e-clip fasteners with the front flap on them? I don't know what they are called.

Next modification is a DC motor and PWM controller, I picked up a GE shunt wound 180vdc 3/4 motor and have a controller coming for the lathe and I'm in the process of getting another for my mill. I'm sick of the slipping belts and belt changes.

could you not use snap rings? with a decent set of snap ring pliers at least you don't have to worry about the things sailing across the shop.
    good luck
    Matt
