    CPU Cooling Fan Wiring

    Can anyone tell me how to wire a cpu cooling fan? Three wires.....

    yellow
    red
    black

    red is to the 12v wire black is to the ground.

    yellow is the rpm wire only used if you plug it into the board.
    most the time
    -----------------------------------------
    yellow on the power supply is 12volt ,black is ground. red is 5



    so red (fan)to yellow-black to black.

    I would use the wires used for harddrives/floppys. Stay away from the main board wires. you dont want to add noise.

    If you intend using the Fan in your Power Supply, give a thought to connecting it across your smoothing Capacitors, (dropping the Voltage with a Regulator if needed), as this assists in bleeding the Voltage from them on shutdown. A nice safe 'Zero Volts' remain, the next time that you open the PSU Case.
