    new aluminum project

    Hi All,

I have a MDF machine, and decided go with aluminum.
What you think about IGUS linear guide
    http://www.igus.de/wpck/default.aspx...1853&C=GB&L=en

    have anyone tryed them ?

    Machine size is 100 x 70 cm (or 40 x 27 inch).
I have chosen a 30 size rails and carriage is that to big for my project ? Maybe I should go with 20 size rails ?

    Here is my sketch.

How it looks ? where is problems, what to change ?
I'm not very satisfied about how steppers mounts. Maybe someone knows better way ? I really appreciate any help.
I want to build machine with great speed and accuracy.

    Thanx for help guys.

    Tadas.

    Tadas,
The components I sell use a similar method for mounting motors to 8020 extrusion, using the t-slots or end-tapped holes. My components are all designed to line up with each other, rather than having the offset you have drawn, but the principle is the same. Check out my website on the "parts list" page for details. If you put a spacer in between the nut and the gantry side, you might be able to avoid the "jog" in your motor mounts.

As for IGUS, I'm not that big a fan. They aren't great for resisting racking, and just in general, rolling element bearings are about 1/10 the coefficient of friction of even the most exotic plain bearings. For the price, I like V-wheels or skate bearing solutions like my own linear motion system better.

    Best regards,

    Ahren

    Ahren, thanx for reply !

I have moved out igus from my mind after searching this forum. (sometimes search is great future lol ).

So here is my new test design. Now with HiWin 20'th size rails. Do I need the protecting cover or not ? and what about overall design. I want to do a compact design as possible. Maybe can some one give me example for inspiration ?

    anyway, here is the pic's:

    Thanx for help !

If you want to see some more designs, there are tons on this site. There are some specific build logs linked from the links section of my site. This one in particular is a compact 2' x 3' machine, and the plans for it are free for download from either my site or finelineautomation.com:
