I can never get the run from here to work is their a trick to it? I type the line number and it will go to it and once I hit the cycle start the z goes up until it hits the switch.

My first thought is that your "safe Z" height is not correct.
My safe z is 3" the z is coming up 12" witch is the height limit.
safe Z is in machine coordinates I think. You might want to check which coordinate system your in.

mine always did the same thing, I usually just edited my code at that point and made a new file.

Yep, I have had problems with it too.
Are you working with mach2 or 3?
I have got it to work on my machine on the odd occasion, but I forget what I did to get it to work.
I think you have to press the run button after you press the run from here button. Its a bit worrying to see, but the code rewinds to the start and then runs very fast without moving the machine, once it gets to the point where you want to run from it stops. That is when you press the run button.( Not the run from here button)
It does seem an odd way of doing things, but as i have said b4, I have seen this action work on my machine.
I have used run from here option from where the machine has stopped the last time. I suspect you can also zero your machine too, so long as you have a good zeroing accuracy, and do the run from here thingy too.
