Has anyone replaced the x3 spindle motor with a servo motor?
Is it even a good idea?

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I have an AB 750W/5000RPM servo motor with its matching drive. I thought it was a good idea, (I don't see why not?), but now I will keep an eye on this thread.
Would it be a lot easier to hook up a servo motor spindle to mach and have it mach controlled? i like that idea because couldn't you tap with that?
seems like you could do this and achieve a higher rpm with the servo.
Anybody have recommendations on a servo / controller et cetera set up? anyone have any idea what the ballpark on cost will be?
Funny i saw this thread i was just looking for the x3 belt swap thread to ask about swapping the motor with a servo
