20mm pitch to big for cnc?

    Hi!

I thinking of buying a used ballscrew for an ok pric but it has a pitch of 20 mm. Will this cause a problem in accuaracy? The Z have a pitch of 10 mm and the y a pitch of 5 mm.

Will it be the same to put a 1:4 gear ration on the x (pitch of 20) and 1:2 for the z, then all 3 will be down to a pitch 5, or am I wrong?

Would be greate with some ideas.

Where accuracy is concerned it will be down to the quality of the screw and the lead error. Other than that your thinking seems to be fine to me.

As John said it should be fine, so long as your servo's/steppers can drive the screw, and you will get great rapids.

I have my eye on a 25mm/turn screw, and am thinking of going 8:1 reduction.
