    Tailstock move....

    Hi again,

    I'm working on a LB4000ex with a P200LA, I want to move the
    tailstock (axe W) but not with the M code, is it possible to do it with
    G0 or G01, I want to use it without pressure, I will put something on the
    center, and use it as a part catcher, I don't want my part to fall on the
    way cover as I part-off my rings. Or any ideas?

    Did try G0 W0, but nothing move and no alarm, looks like the machine is waiting for something....

    Sorry for my english!

    Thanks

    rapid feederate override?
    what kind of tailstok You have? Maybe You nedd to select subspindle first?
    is it NC- tailstock?

    If it is a hydraulic tailstock, only M code will work i guess,
    unless it is an axis with encoder.

    It's an NC tailstock, and no it's not the Rapid Feedrate,
    Yes it is an axe (W) with position on the screen.
    Once settle, I call it with M55(pressure against part) and retract with M56, but I want to move it with the W axe. (G0 W5.0)
    Thanks

    I'm surprised, that no one answered Your question still.
    Obviously, some condition is not satisfied. maybe chuck clamp, maybe turret in safe position. tailstock quill must be retracted, that's for sure. The way to find out is:
    wait for error message; if it takes longer than 20 minutes, it doesn't works at this case
    or
    check "diagnostics" screen
    or, the worst:
    read manual carefully ...

    The tailstock position is programmable. The quill position is not. There should be limit switches under the cover for quill position that can be adjusted so that fully extended is a legal condition. Then you can adjust for tailstock position to obtain near zero part pressure.

    OK, the service man came in for training for an other machine and I asked him.

    So the way (did a sub prog.) to do it is :

    OTIN
    VCHSW=1 (tailstock on)
    M847 (tailstock back to it's limit)
    M55 (retract position) as programmed on the nc tailstock screen
    M166 (tailstock interlock off or something like that)
    G04X2.0 (pause)
    VCHSW=0 (tailstock off)
    RTS

    So now I can use the tailstock as a part catcher.

    Hope it can help someone

    Thanks
