    HL-4 lathe alarm

I have a 1998 HL-4 which runs fine unless the spindle is commanded over 1500rpm.
    then I get a "A axis fault 164"
I thought the turret was "A" doesn't make any sense?
    spindle encoder?
    any help appreciated
    thanks

Chances are that you incoming voltage is too low to power the machine.

Check your incoming voltage and the multi. tap transformer in the control. Check to make sure you have proper wire/breaker size feeding the machine.

What happens is the spindle absorbs enough power to drain the power going to the axes drives. The A axis is the first drive in line and gets the alarm. If you were to physically swap the drives around 180 I would bet the X axis would be the one getting the alarm.

Let us know what you find.
