I am familiar with BobCad and seem to get along with it. However it is pretty saltly for the garage type of work. Is there anything similiar except for the price part?

Hmmm, I think you get for what you pay for. There are many other brand like Rihno, Mashcam, Vector etc but I like Bobcad the most, that is just my opinion and I am not said it is best.
The best way to learn is trial error.
Thanks for the advice.
Dolphin Partmaster. I use surfcam as well but that is by no means hobby software. Dolphin has done wonders for me though.
SharpCam is worth taking a look at: http://www.sharpcam.co.uk/

I suggest VcarvePro. Very easy to use and for the features I think the price is more than fair.
I'm not sure what "saltly" means ... but I'll throw it out for your consideration ... Kipware conversational ... easy-to-use, no drawing required, inexpensive ... info and video presentations at www.KentechInc.com.
Hey that Kipware milling program looks pretty neat. Thanks for sharing.
Deskcnc works well for me and allows for image import as well a dxf and stl.
The nice thing is that you can have a copy on your laptop and one on your desktop for no additional fee.
$250 is very reasonable too. I use mine to generate G-code for all of my Mach3 machines.
Fully configurable postprocessor and many other options as well.

Warning: DIY CNC may cause extreme hair loss due to you pulling your hair out.
I'll check out DeskCNC too. Thanks.
Have you looked at SprutCAM or SmartCAM??![]()
