    HELP TO UNDERSTAND BASICS!!

    Hello,

    I am 19 and I am still learning what a lathe machine is all about.

    I do understand a little bit on its functioning, the basic fundamentals about a Lathe.

    When you look at a brochure for a new CNC machine, I just dont understand a few terminologies and concepts like.

    1) The difference between maximum turning length, maximum turning length between center, swing over bed, swing over cross slide and swing over way covers.
    2) The difference between chuck size, max turning dia and standard dia.
    3) Also how is a spindle speed suppossed to affect your job

    I hope some of you experienced members can enlighten me on these novice confusion and doubts.

    Thanks ,

    Harsh

    Swing over ways : there will be a parallel linear or Box guide ways on the bed;
    for tail saddle or tail stock movement depending on the machine design;
    The job will be holded on the spindle; It all depends on the job length,
    because there will be a gap for some distance and later guideways will be mounted for saddle or tailstock to move on the bed; In the gap the term swing over bed suits, and if the job is lengthier, the job length will cross on parallel block; at this position swing over box will suit; There will be telescopic cover on the box or LM guideways; On that swing over box cover will hold good; Hence defining the specification at various conditions will be useful for selecting a proper machine for our machining purpose;

    Again distance b/w centers is the max length of job can be hold on the machine;

    Max turning length is the distance how much turret holding tool can move longitudinally,or z axis;
