    Question Haas TL-25 part transfer

I have to drill/tap three holes in the face of a part, cut-off and transfer to the subspindle, and drill/tap three holes in the back side of the part. I have to have both spindle oriented for the transfer, so here's what i have tryed.
I turn the front, stop main chuck, orient to zero, orient subspindle to zero, clamp subspindle, and try to turn both on simultaneously. As the part is turning, you can see it leaving marks from slipping in the subspindle.
    M110 (clamp subspindle onto part)
    G04 P2. (Dwell)
    M04 S100 G04 P2. (Main spindle on, dwell)
    M143 P100 (subspindle on)
    Thanks, anyone who can help.

I called our Hass rep the other day bacause the power meter for the sub would max out just before it finished cutting off. 1 spindle runs about 1 -2 rpm faster than the other at 300 rpm. I thought that there was a synch code for the Hass machines so that you could grab hex stock on the run so to speak and force the two spindles to run at the same speed. What I found out was they want to you let the sub just tag along until after it cuts off, back away from the main spindle, then start the sub to do that work. Sounds like you might have to do the same thing.

    Unhappy Answer

I have since spoken to the Applications department at Haas and they had the same answer. It's dissappointing because we bought this lathe for this purpose, but i have found that you simply cannot sync the spindles. Even their demo video shows a part transfer with both spindles spinning, but i don't know how that is possible without having marks on the part since I've spoken to three separate Haas people and only found the same thing you are doing, which means the spindles will not syncronize.

This is just a suggestion but it may work for what you are doing.
I would suggest that you run your cutoff tool almost al the way thru
your part and just leave it hanging on by a small stem then run your sub spindle on, clamp (with the sub spindle oriented) and just pull the part off.
It may take a few test pieces to findout how small to leave the stem but
it may get your job done on this machine. Just a thought.
