    Electronics Enclosure Box

Do you guys think a fiberglass NEMA box that is 10" x 8" x 6" deep would be big enough to house my CNC4PC boards and 3 Gecko Drives? Big enough to include a servo power supply too?

    Gecko Drives: 2.5" x 2.5" x 0.82" each x3.
    CNC4PC Boards:
    Breakout: 4.62" x 4.44"
    PSU: 5.3" x 3.3"

Heh...yeah, I was planning on dual 80mm or dual 120mm fans. So, in other words...it would be a very tight fit. These NEMA enclosures are friggin expensive, but there are some deals on ebay...

Something in the 12" x 12" range might be better?

    Javadog,
I have three I can sell you right now! You will not be able to get them in that size box, I tried. Let me re-phrase, you can but it will be packed way too tight. Plan on something much larger (2x). I would be surprised to see you get it all packed into the 12x12 (in fact I think I have 3 of them I can sell you as well). I am using a 16h x 18l x 6d with fans etc it all fits okie dokie! Good luck man. I suggest you wait till it all arrives and lay it out logically.

Don't know what prices you are getting for that small box.

Try here: Automationdirect.com for some steel boxes (Nema 1 and 3R). They have plastic to, but they aren't available as large as the steel ones.

Yes... It is a pain cutting holes in the steel. Goes with the hobby I guess.

Yeah, I guess that would be the best. So, you got it to fit in a 16" x 18"? That at least gives me a guide of what I should be looking at then. Thanks.

Automation Direct is far too expensive, on ebay the 12" x 12" goes for around $20-$30 - and that is all I am willing to pay.

Nah, steel doesn't bother me. I am used to fan holes and windows - case modding is my other hobby.

    JavaDog,

I just transferred all of my drives, breakout, connectors, etc to a new box: an empty PC case. These are generally large enough, cheap and come with fans and 12V / 5V power supply. I'll be posting a pic on my machine log shortly.

    Thanks,
    JR

Yeah, I had thought of going that route as well...but I would have to go with something pretty like a Lian-Li (and they are $80). I dunno...I kinda like the look of the NEMA enclosures for some odd reason.

    Javadog,

How about $36. Close to your price range.

    See here: http://web3.automationdirect.com/adc...uts/SC181806NK

    18x18x6 with screw cover.

I never have luck finding the bargains, but good luck searching.
