    no more clamps vacuum project

I started on vacuum hold down system, here is what I have in mind.
    1. most if not all parts easy to aquire
    2.DIY doable
    3.reasonable $$$$

Here are hold downs I am designing as modular units for CNC router.
Those just mock ups, I will cut those out of 3/4 PVC.
Design is partially taken out of commercial phenolic vacuum tables. Kinda combination of Hotz Her Biesse and Komo.
More coming up as project is coming together and testing progresses.

    Question More details please!

    Big-tex,
Could you fill us in on the vacuum pump spec's? (in of mercury, HP, Amps for motor, etc.)
What are the dimensions of one hold down pod?
Do you plan/need to use vacuum storage tank(s) for initializing hold down?
Any thing else we would find interesting/important?

BTW, looks very DIY friendly, nice job! Thanks for posting and pic's.

    Randy,

I have vacuum pump that is 12 V and used it to draw vacuum for Veggie oil collection with 80 gal tank. It did very well so I will use it for this project.
Specs 12v Thomas diaphram 1.6 cfm, I got it at ebay dirt cheap.
Yes I will use tank (old broken portable compressor max 5 gal)

I will aslo use some componets found here:
    http://www.joewoodworker.com/veneering/EVS/concept.htm

Good read for anyone wanting to build vacuum system.
Good source for ideas and selected items.

    Pay it forward!

    Big-tex,
Just want to say "Thank You" (in advance), for going through all the effort to document your vac hold down system. It is the DIY solutions that help to keep this hobby affordable to SOooo many people!
Great job, nice pics (now don't make a liar out of me, lol).
