Mastercam is on it's way out. In the latest release of lathe in X4 they just added round boring bars in verify. I think Bobcad had round boring bars in the 1980's. Also the graphics on X4 are like a Vic20. The ATMs here in Canada look better.

I'd say that on 4 & 5 axis simultaneous work they are pretty much the same. They also use the same simulation package from MachineWorks.
What made use choose SolidCAM was (a) the very keen price of the SolidWorks / SolidCAM bundle here in the UK and (b) the ability for the user to modify the post processor. I think SMasterCAM might have better model import translators so if you don't work exclusively in SolidWorks that might be significant.
