    Question Cutting milling bits?

    Hi all,
I am machining a douzen of T nuts from a long flat steel bar and I was wondering if there were any milling bits specially design to cut (to detach each T nut once all machining an holes are done)

I guess I could use a end milling bit... but the smallest I have is 4mm, a lot of waste. And this doesn't give a very neat edge...

Note: The mill is manual, not CNC. End I can not use a sliding blade as the bar is too long to fit between the vice and the chuck.

    Thank you,
    RNR

    You again

Well you are suffering from a lack of equipment, like a horizontal metal cutting bandsaw.

Or just use a hacksaw then just clean the ends up which is the way i do it "NOT THE HACKSAW"

When holding them in the vice hold them one each end of the vice to stop tilting, you do all the cleaning up at one end.

    Options are: -

Powersaw/Bandsaw them off. Extra op then required to finish edge.

Split them on a surface grinder using an elastic wheel (thin cutting disc).

Make them from round bar and part them off on a lathe.

If you really have to to split them nicely on the mill orient the T-cross-section so that you cut through the thinnest section possible. You could use a slitting saw with your head tilted over at 90degrees.

Ya... I know... lack of tools.... need a lathe next then I'll see for the rest... :P
Again, it all adds up... But I will get there some time.
