    Melting whilst drilling.

    Hey everyone,

I am having trouble with plastic melting whenever i drill it using the "multicam" cnc router i have at work. i am relatively new to the cnc game and am confused about whats going on. basically whenever i drill any plastics and nylons it just gets way too hot and melts by the time i finish drilling and leaves terrible finished holes. also the tool seems to vibrate way too much, it doesnt matter if im using a 3mm or a 13mm drill i get the same results. being a multicamm i do not have the ability to slow the spindle head right down, it turns between 9000 and 18000 rpm from memory. and i can plunge from 100 to 5000mmpm.

plastics i most commonly use and are having trouble with are: Delrin - Nylon(lfx,pa99,6pla) - polyprop - hdpe

any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.:rainfro:

You might try a really sharp two fluted end mill instead of a drill- that might work?
I love deadlines- I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

If you can't turn your speed down, try turning your feed up.

Can you mill the holes rather than just plunging?
