    Step Syn Moter needed

Hi. You have to excuse me as I am a printer by trade. I have a screen 3075 image setter. I the stepping motor is making a noise and not spinning the image drum as high speeds - at slow speed it is.

    The motor info is a

there is another no 6038448 and DC 1.5

The motor is about 14 years old

So please excuse my ignorance but do you know were I can obtain a new one.

    I'm based in the UK.

    Thanks Jake

It could be a Slo-Syn product made by Superior Electric, if so it could give you a bit more to search on.
Are you sure there is no extra loading or friction, as this could also be a cause.

Thanks for the info. I will look them up.

Regarding the load on the motor is low as it just spins a drum round. I will have look but i don't think there is a brake on the drum. I think the motor acts as a brake. Were the motor joins the drum there is a friction bracket. My brother gave it a name. We thought that it was slipping at the bracket.

Silly question but when it works the motor is quiet. When it plays up it sounds like a drill.

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers jake

As Al_the_man said it could be a fault other than the stepper motor.

If there is too much load from friction from a failed bearing or some other drag the stepper will stall at high speeds. The stepper motor stall is what makes that high pitched "drill" sound.

If the friction bracket is some type of vibration damper (common in office machines) and the rubber elements have perished or failed that might also cause the stepper motor to stall when it tries to go to high speed.
