    kelling 381oz steepers

Whats feeds can i expect to achieve with 381oz kelling steppers?

I have been stalling/losing steps when restarting a tool path mid program when mach 3 dose its rapid move to start of tool path. Im not sure if this is software or a motor voltage problem with all 3 axis moving during a rapid at 200ipm. I have been machining at 181ipm but would like to get the max out of my motors. I also have watchdog trigger errors....

Kind of hard for anyone to tell from what you have given. Need to know what type/size machine, what drivers, microstepping setting, voltage, current setting, type drive (leadscrew, rack and pinion, etc), if leadscrews, are they ballscrews or acme. Lots of stuff not known right now.

    Disable them in General Config.
As the previous reply said, you need to provide a lot more info.

i disabled the watchdogs but what do they do?

I have a moving table with 1605 c7 ballscrews and sbr linear guides. Weight of each axis is <80lb.

I have set the mach 3 frequency to 45khertz. Should i try increasing this?

g540 with 48V 12.5A keling power supply with no resistors on motors.

With 5mm lead screws, it takes roughly 5 revs/inch. At 200ipm, your motors are spinning at about 1000rpm which is close to the limit for those motors (i.e. torque is dropping very quickly at those rpm). To improve speed, your best bet would be to get a higher lead screw.

I've got the same motors and gecko with a 2510 screw and am getting a reliable 400ipm rapids on my heavy axis. I can push the lighter axes to 450-ish.

You might be able to get slightly higher rapids or at least a reliable 200ipm if you drop your accel a little bit. Also, try oiling your screws a bit too, I use ordinary motor oil.

No. At 1000rpm, your motors need about 33,333 steps/second, which is 33Khz.
As Andy says, your screws are holding you back. 1610 or 2010 would be a better choice.
Another option would be to use a belt reduction to spin the screws faster at the same motor rpm, provided that the screws don't start whipping at the higher rpm.

Thanks for this info. I will try slow my acceleration down a little. Im milling 7075 aluminium what effect will this have on the machine if i change up to 1610 ballscrews?

Well, from the "no free lunches" department - your maximum force will be cut in half.

Whether that will have an effect on cutting I can't tell you. Depends on the cutting force you're using.
