    Recommended bit ?

    Hi guys,

I'm just learning 3D and I've made one real attempt at cutting the design pictured below but I used a square edge, .125" 2 flute end mill I normally use for aluminum on my X2. It turned out fairly decent even though the wood I used for the test carving was .750" damp plywood.

So now I want to do a much better job using a piece of hardwood but I need some advice on what bit or bits to use. The piece is 5" x 7".

    Thanks,

    Steve

BTW: I don't know what's going on with the Zone, my youtube video wouldn't post last night now my picture isn't posting ???

To get enough detail on the horse, probably a 1/16" ballnose with a stepover of about .005
Maybe even smaller, but it'll take forever

Thanks Gerry, I'll order some tonight. One last question, is it me or the Zone that I can't post the pics and the youtube viewer in the threads like usual ?

You might want to use a 1/8" bit and use the Rest Machining function with a smaller bit. That would save you considerable time.
