Would this motor be more powerfull than my current one?

My current motor is the stock 1/5hp 1.8amp 110v one on the Harbor Freight Micro Mill. It is rated at 2000rpm.

The one i found is one from a jigg saw. It seems to have a variable speed control, and is rated at 3.7amps, 3500 rpm, and is brushed. I have no idea of what HP this translates to. Would this do better? Higher rpm and torque?
    Thanks - zAck

motor sounds around maybe 1/2 hp maybe little less

sounds like it will work good, just make sure it had over heating protection . If you do long runs without being next to the machine

How would I know? There are just two wires going to the motor, + and -. Well, I will always be near, and check it often. I'll post a pic tommorrow morning.

What other numbers do you have? voltage etc? If not, if you crank it up somehow up to 3500 open circuit and measure the voltage across the + - and multiply by 3.5 then divide by 746 which will equal HP.

oh only two wires... well then it's not the 120ac i was thinking it was hehe it might be allot smaller . Do what altheman said that will give you the true hp

I can't imagine it will get anymore than 18 volts, (i havn't measured yet.), it would be like .08 hp? I doubt that. The one on the mill now is just about the same size, and has less amperage. Will your calculations work for dc too?

With two wires + & - I assumed it was DC.
If it is a universal motor then the previous procedure won't work.
