    Question VAC Drive Fault and Clamp open/close Problem

    Hi Gentlemen,

    I am working on an LB15-W, when the operator powers up the machine the spindle drive comes up with a fault right away. I have no manual for this drive, it is a VAC Type A D-11. It has two rows of led's located about mid-drive (btw no cover included). On the top row the left one (of the two red led's) is on and a green led labled 2 is on. All other led's are off.

    This appears to keep the clamps from working, due to the zero speed circuit not firing up.

    The fault will not reset unless I wait about 5 to 10 minutes, power down the machine power back up and then press reset on the drive. Any clues to the fault or where I could get a manual for one of these at would be greatly appreciated.......I need enlightenment badly......have been chasing this ghost for about a month now...........

    What is the control on the LB-15 ? ie OSP5020L
    Does it give an alarm message ?
    What is the full alarm message right down to the description ?

    Is there any messages on the " Diagnostics page" ?

    Thanks for the reply Superman,

    The fault on the drive occurs as soon as the machine's main disconnect is turned on and before the control power on pushbutton is pressed...If the control power is turned on prior to resetting the drive then you get the standard SDU fault when the screen comes on and the drive appears to be alot more difficult to reset.... Btw....the system has the 5020 on it.....

    VAC D-||

    there are a lot of points to check on the old spindle drive unit.
    First of all, check if fans are running. It has two fans at least on the back side. Clean the radiator.
    Next, check the power transistors. Sometimes You find evidently failed, sometimes You find some with beta dead.
    Connectors - the pain in the ass ...

    Common problem for bad main control board. Auxiliary power supply not starting.
    Old components that need to be replaced.
