I used 600 volt MTW (machine tool wiring) on one of my engines and never a stray spark.
I bought some wire from Roy Sholl at NAMES. He has 5, 10, 20, and 26 KV (thousand volt) wire by the foot. The diameter of the wire dictates what I use. They are all very good quality, silicon jacket.

Kind of a late reply, but it might help someone...
The usual wire is stiff and crappy hookup wire, but a better alternative exists... look for some rubber-sheathed test probe cable, the same sort of stuff used to make probes for DMM's and such. It uses a very fine stranded copper that is as limp as a noodle, has extra-heavy sheathing, and looks totally scale. Remember that with spark ignition, voltage is the problem, current is not, so the copper does not have to be especially heavy, but the insulation does.
I've used the stuff I mentioned, and like it a lot. You can see it here...
