cnc settings in mach 3 for usb

Im a newbie who needs starting point settings for mach 3

my system is simple x axis and z axis lathe

    48v power supply
    NEMA 23 Frame KL23H2100-50-4B: motors
    kl 5056 motor drivers
Axis CNC USB Card Mach3 200KHz Breakout Board akz250
    mach3 software.

trying to get motors to run (not hooked to machine just on bench)cannot seem to get the settings on the motor drivers to work, I was wondering if someone could give me dip settings and mach3 motor settings to just get them started, I have followed the set up instruction on both, motor driver goes into protection when I send command from motor config screen w arrow keys, motor gets warm but does not move.

Did you assign the step dir pins for the motors thats first then you go to motor tuning and tune your motors.
The motors should be very warm almost hot .
Go to you tube and watch the tutorials thats what I did when I was first using mach.
Are you using xp or windows 7 I guess 64 bit you have to do special things to get mach to work.

Where to start? Have you used Mach or a CNC machine before? (Not bashing just asking to know where to begin). Have you assigned the hotkeys? Do you know where the MDI line is or how to use it?

thank you for responding, yes I watched tons of videos, I am running windows 7 64 bit. my step pin numbers and dir pins aren't set, my board setup directions said to ignore that part of set up?
I can try to populate those fields and try again. what do I need to do for 64 bit?

Looks like your using a USB motion controller, so 64 bit isn't an issue.

Do you have the plugin installed and configured correctly? Hopefully, you have amanual that tells you what the port# and pin#'s are?

If the port and pin #'s are left blank, then there must be a plugin configuration screen where you set them.

to answer your questions no is the answer. keep in mind I am just assembling the components on a bench before hooking it to a machine. two motors, control box, and pc running mach 3 , w proper .dll file for breakout board.

    power supply voltage is 47.3v
motor driver settings for 8 micro steps, and 4.9a on the current
checked and rechecked the connections and as soon as a motor is connected it puts the motor driver into fault.

Then you either have a bad motor, or it's wired wrong. Or I guess the drive could be bad, but I doubt it.

You have to assign the step and direction pins. You will also have to set the steps per inch or mm in motor tuning. How else would the computer tell which motor to move?

You have to assign the step and direction pins.
It looks like he doesn't. He's using a chinese USB motion controller. The manual says "ignore" the pin #'s, and the board has X,Y, and Z labels. I guess the plugin is coded to send the step /dir signals to those specific terminals.

It seems like your issue is with the steppers and drives, as it works until you try to move?
