I've got a 2006 vintage bridgemill and it came with a traditional type compound. Since my machine is CNC, I made a block to hold a BXA quick change tool post and no longer use the compound. Looking at the pics on the Shoptask web site, the compound thhey have pictured is about the same as the one I have.

Also, possibly another way to turn a taper is to offset your "Y" mill table. Mine is the 1998 version 17-20 XMTC. My mill table will rotate 360 degrees. So, it is possible to set the table to do long tapers; relatively long, limited as to chatter problems if extended too far out. My machine is not a conventional machine shop machine and it is nice, sometimes, to do things unconventionally. I don't know if the newer machines kept this feature.

You might try http://www.LittleMachineShop.com to find a conventional tool post compound or http://www.Smithy.com/

JT's 4-way toolpost is a rather interesting contraption. I have it, but prefer my compond.

Another source for tool post tooling is:

I have it mounted to the tool post and then a cutting tool in the compound. The problem is that it seems that it should be pointing at a 90 degree angle to what it is. It is the tool is perfectly in line with the travel of the compound which makes it impossible to cut a taper. When you look at a video of someone cutting a taper with a compound it seems that the tool is at a certain angle to the compound, this doesn't seem possible with the one that hangs on the tool post as the tool angle is not adjustable to the slide. Its straight or nothing so how on earth do you cut a taper? What is the compound even for in this case??

PLEASE HELP ME BEFORE I LOSE MY MIND!!!

I'm not clear how rotating the table would create a taper since the table is still traveling along the X axis? I was hoping this would work when I got my machine, but I wrote it off at some point. Am I missing something? In my mind, it basically doubles as a rotary base on a mill vise.
