Hello,
I wonder if anyone knows if and how to increase live tool rpms over the 3000 limits set on the ST30SS machine? 24 station turret.
And how much faster, if any, can we go or not and what is the limiting factor on doing so.
Thanks
Patrick

You can buy new live tools that multiply the imput rpm. Global cnc is the company I use and they can build you one a lot cheaper then Eppinger.
Thanks for the information on those items.
I will look into it.
One question, why do you need more rpm? I've done engraving and small hole drilling without having the capability to go over 3000 rpm and it did just fine. You need to look at what you are going to save time wise by running the tool faster and see if that time savings offsets the 3+ thousand dollars your going to spend on new tools. Then there's the power, twice the rpm half the torque. And what about rigid taping you'll always have to remember to program for a tap with half the amount of threads. As you can see I looked at this option already and didn't go with it. If you want a lot more rpm try an air spindle. Modern Machine Shop just did an article about Bryan Machine's air spindle. It sounds bad ass but again the things like 4 grand.
plastics can be cut faster and also AL materials @ much faster rpms.
I would think need 6k to 10k speeds at times doing 3d surface face and od surface.
Now that is an idea worth looking into, the air motors design.
Thanks
