Hi.

I have a Grizzly lathe model G9972Z

This is a great lathe but I have one problem.

I can't remove the 3 jaws chuck. I've tried many times but never had success.

I unscrew the two small clamps from the back of the chuck but there is no more I can do.

Is anybody have some ideas to unscrew the chuck.

I post some pictures of how they do it in the manual.

Have you tried chucking a bar in the chuck after the screws are loosened? Then you should be able to wiggle it a bit and hopefully it will release. You could also extend the bar thru the spindle and hit the bar with a hammer from the headstock end driving the chuck towards the tailstock, be sure to put a board under the chuck. How long has the chuck been installed? If both of the above ideas dont work I would resort to dry ice and freeze the chuck thouroughly and let it warm up and see if it broke the bond. Failing that I would introduce heat but then seals might be sacrificed. Heat would be a last resort.

Sorry, I just realized it was a threaded chuck. Are the threads left hand or right hand? Again chuck a bar sideways so it would lay against the ways (actually on a board on the ways) engage the lathe so the motor unscrews the chuck. Use a low gear and just bump the power. Or just take a deep cut in reverse with those screws already loosened :-)
