    VFD Wiring from 220v Converter

    Hello friends,

I am in the process of hooking up my 220v 1.5kw spindle and the plug that was attached to the VFD came off and before I fry the unit I wanted to ask here about the R S T hook ups. The unit came wired and used only two wires off the power cable although the cable actually has three. The power cable is coming from a Shen 220V 3000W from 110V power converter switch. I have downloaded a few manuals for this particular VFD but I have some conflicting information. Some say connect R and T, others say R and S and ground T.

    Please help!

Normally you NEVER connect a R,S or T to ground.
The ground should be used as its name says and connect to the ground terminal, If you have 3 phase available from a convertor or? the RST go to the three terminal, it sounds like they used it previously on 1 phase, in that case R & S would normally work.
If it is a simple 3 phase full wave rectifier on the input then any combination of the 1 ph in would work.

In examining the screw terminals I found broken wire fragments on both the S and T terminals. R appeared to be clean. Does wiring up only the S and T terminals sound right with nothing at P+?

I suspect P+ and PR are external braking? leave these unconnected to try.
As I previously mentioned, if the input is as usual a 3 phase rectifier then it should not matter, if S & T appear to have been previously used, then I would try these, it is very rare to damage anything by picking the wrong RST pair, as these would be connected to 3 phase power anyway!.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm going to try the S and T. Is it true that if I want MACH3 to control this I need to get a bob board?? And for an estop any info on that? I did not receive a manual with this and I am unsure if the ones I downloaded are for this particular VFD

    Thanks again!

You will need a BOB that will convert the pwm to analogue for the VFD.
Also outputs to VFD inputs for the M3/M4, fwd/rev.
