    Thanks fellas!
Made the nema 34 mount and set it up today.
Didn't have the locks on and the 5th didn't cause any vibration at all, was only using a 3/16 endmill though.
Snugged the worm up as tight as I dare to get the backlash down as best as possible, will check it tomorrow.
Tried the nema 34 first in parallel then series mode.
Ran the same speed in parallel as the 570's best (it's harder to rotate now though)
Got a 20% speed improvement in series mode.
Will try a lower pulley ratio again, running 1:1 now.
The tool would be seeing something along the lines of 150 IPM right now.

OK, the 5th axis is done, mechanically.
This nema 34 at 1.6:1 and bipolar parallel gives the best results.
    It's moving 77% faster than the 570 n23.
Backlash is down to .012 degree, about .001 as the tool would see.
The tool would move at about 190 IPM.
Hogged some ally with the locks off and it runs very solid.
Have a belt cover to draw up and machine out of plastic then to learn the software.
Technically need to get the 4th axis rotary running again to make a part with 5 axis'
    but in due time.

Fantastic stuff Hoss! It's so inspirational the stuff you do. Makes it seem like us mere mortals could achieve it

    cheers,

It's rumoured that everytime someone buys a TB6560 based board, an engineer cries!

    Thanks mate!
I really just needed a head spacer but why not make it a cool head spacer.
Now I need a place to store some tools that are easy to access but I'm too lazy to pick them up myself.

You machined the mill with itself..... I think this is how the terminator started

are you using any type of feedback system, so the program knows exactly when you are vertical?

Did an experiment for the 5th axis belt cover.
Used pretty economical PVC lumber from Lowes.
    Worked out pretty well.
Glued a few boards together to get the thickness needed, next I'll get some 2x and 4x's to have on hand.
Plastic boards from 100% recycled plastic. We ship USA.
Not as dense as delrin or other plastics but it is just a dust/chip cover.
    Pretty satisfied.

OMFG... a rotary table to make the head rotate?!? you NEVER cease to amaze me. Its absolutely brilliant! I am dying to see that thing in action. I wouldn't know where to begin how to program the 4th and 5th axis.

    Must make tramming a breeze

Next thing you know Hoss's mill will have tracks on each side of the base so it can run around the room and pick stuff up for him. Heck, he may even send the machine to the dreaded basement on a hunt and seek mission.

You better be careful Hoss, Hunt and seek can quickly become search and destroy!!

    Thanks Nate!

skinner, seems a pretty smart aleck comment but being in a wheelchair, I might have to think about it.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a smart ars. Just bragging about your machine.
BTW, I didn't realize you were confined to a wheelchair.

rwestbr1 commented on this video about using TREX lumber, Lowes carries it too so
I'll have to give some of that a try as well.

I finally got around to making a video of something I've mentioned for years,
making a single point threadmill from a tap.
The video shows a former 1/2-13 tap cutting a 15/16-16 thread for a ballnut mount.
After 1 spring pass the ballnut fit perfectly.
No need to spend a bunch of money.

    Great idea Hoss!

I've been very intrigued by the idea of thread milling, but have been scared away by the cost. My wallet thanks you ..

Bob, sure, just ask my ex-wife.

gd, I think I could make a prettier one on the lathe with a grinder and use a magnifying lens
to see better to cut the relief with the dremel, but even this scraggly looking tool made in 15 min. did quite nicely.
