    Re: Hoss's G0704

    Hoss,

Just some information for you to add to the pile for the G0704. I killed the motor controller on my BF20 as you may have seen and have currently started working on replacing it with the 1.1kw BLDC set up from Keling. The motor has a 14mm shaft on it and while researching gearing options, as I'm not ready to go belt drive just yet, I found that Grizzly has updated the G0704 with a motor that also has a 14mm output shaft. They list new gearing parts for it as v2 parts. The stock 20 tooth gear can be had with part number P0704230V2 and the key can be had with part number P0704231V2.

I'll confirm after I receive it that the parts are correct and work with this set up. If that fails I'll probably do the 36 tooth conversion you did at one point until I am ready to go belt drive.

Better baby it, that much power will make figgy pudding of the plastic internal gears.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

If I kill them it will just make spending the money on a belt drive that much easier to justify. I want to get the new controller on and running without blowing it up like I did the last one before I worry about anything else.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Yeah just a heads up, you might want to order a couple spare plastic ones too, I know one person that did the motor upgrade first and melted the gears first time out.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Ohh.. I'm sure I'll make some stupid mistake and kill them. Not as stupid as hooking the last 3 wires up to the Gecko and blowing up both the Gecko and motor control board but something almost as equally stupid.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

I checked and my C6 board works perfectly fine under Mach 3 for spindle control so my wiring is correct but still no joy from Mach 4 other than the clicking I showed before.
I'll try some more later but enough is working in Mach 4 that I can use it to make a part I want.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Bingo, got the C6 spindle control working in Mach 4, M3/M5 still does nothing so I'll have to look into that.
Not much use if the gcode can't turn it on/off.

edit, got some tips from Eric on youtube to adjust my settings so we'll try again tomorrow.

just remove M3, M4 and M5 from your Profiles macro folder it will work then M6 does not stop things from working

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Excellent, thanks to the tips from Eric and Daniel the C6 spindle control is working like it should now with M3/M5 and the sro% is what I think it should be now too.
In Mach 3 it had a dro you could input a speed so the % overdrive made sense, I believe Mach 4 is going by the last S figure used for the sro% slider.
    Looks good now anyway.

Mach 4 is ready to run, machined the part out of some plastic lumber and all went well, I'll show more detail during the real part run next.

    Hoss,

That looks like the FCG pocket profile from an AR15. Is that what is/was modeled from?

    A couple Mach questions

If you have neither the software or hardware at this point..............
Would you pick 3, or 4
Would you use Printer port or not.
How does Mach 4 connect to controller if not printer port. USB, Ethernet?

    Thanks

Mach 4 can make parts right now but doesn't have much in the peripherals department yet, pendant, pokeys etc.
I'll have a video soon showing what I can do with it.
The printer port isn't the focus of Mach 4 far as I can tell, it will be geared more towards motion control boards like smoothstepper since many new or newish pc's don't even come with parallel ports.
There is an ethernet SS plugin already with usb close behind.
    Software
If starting out the ESS and Mach 4 is what I'd use but it's nice Art took the time to make the legacy parallel port plugin for folks like me with their mill already set up to use just the PP and Mach 3.
It's enough to get the job done, the niceties will come in time.

    Thanks

Smooth Stepper, would also be a good choice?

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Yes, ESS, ethernet smoothstepper. No experience with it personally but it gets good reviews.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Well here's the video showing you can make parts with Mach 4 but unfortunately I also show the E-stop works too.
Part was 99% finished when the fixture loosened and let the part pull up into the endmill.
No fixing this part so time to order another and make a better fixture.
