Hoss, I presume the plans are free for people who have already bought the DVD? Or for everyone?

    Great work on the drawbar.

I'm still looking at making a manual version of this with a long lever.

Acquiring funds for stage 1 conversion.

There is no reason I couldn't easily upgrade from Phase 1 to Phase 3 conversion?

I plan on getting good electronics and steppers. I guess the only thing I would need to upgrade would be the C7 ballscrews?

    Re: Hoss's G0704

That's the case often, build phase 1 then use the cnced mill to help build phase 2 or especially 3 when the funds are there for ballscrews.

Thanks for the plans Hoss, you are a champion.

I contacted chai about double nuts - I bought my screws a little before you posted about them - and he said I can retrofit them, so I've got some coming. I'll update on the backlash when they come, as it might help others who didn't get them at time of ordering screws.

That's cool to hear he'll sell the double nuts separately now, will be a good option for many.

A note on the PDB 3, I can't locate my treadmill motor at the moment to check but there is a possibility that the height of the motor could interfere with the tilting air cylinder.
I'll hunt it to make sure but using the cam lever with the slot that I made first should fix it and let the pivot for the cylinder be tightened in place, with a bolt and different bushing, so it stays put.
    I'll verify soon I hope.

I like the drawbar design. If you're worried about it interfering with the drive motor could you just remove the yellow part from the pictures and turn it 180deg?

    Re: Hoss's G0704

I would imagine the cylinder rod/cam lever could hit the motor turned 180 but it's possible.
The motor and mounting holes could just me moved farther back with a longer belt too.

is there any reason to not use helical coupler's when connecting up your stepper's to the ballscrew's?

    Yeah, they suck.
Unless you use stainless steel helicals, aluminum ones are too springy and prone to breaking at the force the 570 steppers can put on them at the speeds possible.
You can run what you like but they'd never go on my mill.

I tried the helical Aluminum ones at first, went thru about 5 broken ones before I swore never to use them again.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Hoss, thanks for the PDB3 plans.

One thing I can't seem to find information on, and I assume this is because it is in the belt drive kit, is the height of the base mount (rails) that screw directly to the head of the mill. The part the base legs attach to. They look to be 0.5 inches wide by 1 inches tall. Is that correct? I don't really need much past the height. I want to make sure the spacing from top to bottom is as accurate as possible

    Re: Hoss's G0704

The beltdrive mount it sits on is .5 wide x .75 tall in that section, that's about the same height as the stock motor plate too.

I've looked through all my folders and such for videos / pictures for the C7 LMB2008 Z axis being installed.. I can't find anything. Which way does the nut go? Ballnut flange toward the turned end or away?

    Thanks, Connor

That's because I never installed one in mine but I would have the ballnut flange on top so the screws go in from the top.
