    Hey Hoss, would you still take the G0704 in this price class?
    And for electronics, how are these new 3-in-1 setups from Keling? The competitors to the G540 but 60v/6a? Do you still prefer separate drivers?

    Heck yeah, according to the catalog the g0758 is $895 with the stand optional, another $160, the website lists it as $895 with stand. wonder which is correct?
    If the catalog is correct then the G0704 is only another $140 with the stand factored in, no brainer if you ask me, the g0704 is a lot more mill.
    There are a few people here using the mx3660, if I started over I'd use at least one, maybe 2.

    Damn. I have a g540 sitting about since a while ago....
    Might have to resell that with it's 380oz motors.

    Did you ever build a spindle lock for the G0704. I know you don't need it now. But I could use one. And have you seen this one

    I made a spanner wrench back when I still needed to tighten the drawbar by hand.

    Yes I've seen that bracket from grizzly, pretty expensive for something that just clutters the spindle IMO, their spanner alone is good enough.

    I wasn't going to pay that price. LMS has that for half the price still to much, just looking for Ideas to build somthing for mine. My spindle isn't drilled for a wrench like the newer ones. Heck I still need to do the 3 bolt mod on mine.

    You must have had it a while, they've been shipping with the hole in the side of the spindle to fit their spanner for a year or so. I had to drill my own, it's not hard to do, just be careful to only go about 3/16 deep to avoid breaking thru.

    Yes I got mine before you started the cnc conv. on yours. Your first review of the G0704 is what promted me to order it.

    Hoss do you think a 15 tooth pulley is big enough for me to use on the y-axis of my BF20? That would give me 7 teeth engaged per pulley with a .375 wide belt. I was staring at the pulley the other day thinking it looked a little small...

    It should be fine as long as the tension is good, I used 24 tooth pulleys on mine though.

    Hoss, I'm interested in converting my HF 9x20 headstock to use a 5C collet spindle. I haven't decided if I will use the headstock as a 4th axis for my CNC'ed X3 or convert the HF 9x20 to CNC. I definitely like the idea of using either approach with the 5C collet and mounting a 5C three or four jaw chuck if needed.

    I saw your videos where you converted a 7x12 lathe headstock to use a spindle from a 5C spin index. I was thinking of using the same approach. Do you remember the dimensions of the 5C spin index spindle? I don't seem to be able to find any information on the dimensions on the net.

    Do you have any plans available for your 7x12 headstock conversion? When selecting a spin indexer for donor parts, is there any considerations I need to keep in mind?

    My spin indexer OD was 45mm which is probably typical but you should get one first to measure for your bearings.
    You may be able to get bearings with an OD that might fit your 9x head without boring it like I had to for the 7x, 85mm iirc.
    Keep in mind I cut threads on the end of the spin indexer spindle for nuts to keep it together.
    Don't have plans for it as all I basically did was bore the head for the bearings.
    Don't spend a lot, I used a Shars indexer as most of it goes to waste.

    Thanks for the information. The dimension I'm most concerned with is the length measured from the back of the face of the spindle head to the end of the spindle. That would tell me if it's long enough to pass through the headstock and how much clearance I would have to secure the spindle. It would also tell me if I need to purchase a 7x12 headstock from LMS and restrict my plans to the 4th axis only. Would you know what this dimension is?

    Here is the spindal lock I made today. I know you don't need one but some one not going cnc might like the Idea. It is held on by 3 m6 setscrews and can be removed if it is in the way. Works good and beats holding the spindle with pliers.

    It's about 7.125 from the flange to the end.

    I really like this as well. I guess I'm going to have to put that 6" long 4" dia. block of aluminum that's been sitting on my work bench for three months to good use. Good excuse for another project!

    I think I ordered the wrong ball nuts when I got my C7 ballscrews from Chai on Ebay.
    Mine look like this:

    Do I need different ones?
    How do I repack these with larger balls?

    I think those are right.. The only thing I see different is they have a extra hole in them in the middle.. Not sure what that's for.. Looks like they even ground one of them for you which is good.. As long as they didn't get it hot enough to melt the plastic insert used to recirculate the balls.
