What is this? Hammond machinery Builders, inc Kalamazoo Mich

I have one of their jigs. I found the patent info(filed 23 may 1958), that's all I find. Its "...apparatus mountable upon the work supporting table of an
electrolytic grinding machine for positioning and holding a workpiece with respect to the peripheral surface on the grinding wheel..."

It almost looks electrical, since there are wires in it, maybe they just provide
grounding. There is nothing that I see that would hold the workpiece onto this
jig. What I really want to know is specifically what it was for and might it have
    any use today.

    Attachments.

    Any help, thanks much,
