You don't want to bypass the overload circuit. That circuit is protection for the board. Bypassing it will most likely result in blown components on the controller. Here is a link to a place that does repair on these boards...

As you can see, there are several versions of the controller boards and I don't know which one you have.
It may be possible to make adjustment to current limit to allow you to run with the 5 inch chuck without damaging the board. You might contact Gerling with your board info and get some help there.

i found some info last night with the help of this forums bench top machine members and was able to adjust the pots to where she runs the chuck in high gear with 5.5 start up amps and 1.5 amps run.
i did not check how many amps it takes to stall the motor but it is more then before i messed with the pots.
She seems to be fine.
