Because there is no physical contact between the cutting tool and the workpiece laser cutters don't have to be so rigidly constructed as a Bridgeport consequently they don't look very much like a milling machine.
Obviously it depends on your budget but you could cut wood and plastic parts for an investment of a few thousand dollars but to cut metal parts a few tens of thousands of dollars would be required.
Out of curiosity, what type and size of parts do you have in mind to use a laser for ?
