Pure talc may be a little better, no oils or perfumes. Also, Brick dust, coal dust or powdered graphite can be used. I use a powder Alum and graphite and it works very well for me..so far. I have some Asbury commercial dust, but haven't tried it yet.
Right on thanks but i wonder what would be the easyest one to get other then the talcome powder ??
talcum will work if it is indeed talc- some has corn starch. Diamond parting is chalk dust.
In the words of the Toolman--If you didn't make it yourself, it's not really yours!
Remember- done beats perfect every time!!
Check out Budget Casting supplies, they sell the Asbury dust and lots of other stuff. Some of their prices are high but most is free shipping.

For small items you will be okay, but UPS charges brokerage and HST on top of that as well. I know I am going to take a beating this week because I ordered Jupiter blended Petro Bond 50 pounds of it. The shipping was $66 plus brokerage. USPS shipping was $112. I will report back when I see the brokerage and taxes. Normally UPS to Canada will be double the cost of what you purchased.
Two days after I found Budget I found someone that would sell me the Bentone Clay and I could have made my own Petro bond for 25% of what it cost to purchase. Live and learn. Well now I will have enough stock material to recondition the sand when I need to do it.

DE works good for sand systems. You can get it at places like home depot. Its cheap.
You can get bentonite at most places that carry pottery making supplies or well drilling supply stores and even sometimes gardening supply places. If you live in a small town you can probably go to the local sewer contractor or the city sanitation department and they will have plenty for lining ponds.
