    Trouble with printer port settings

    Hi,

My old laptop just died and Im trying to use another very old laptop to control my machine now.

I know the printer port must be working, because when I change any settings to the port "LPT1"in device manager, I hear my stepper motors clunk.

However, Even though I have the correct port assigned in Mach (0x378), and have set the correct pin numbers for my stepper driver board, The motors are not recieving any signal on command from Mach3.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the "interupt" settings for the port in XP's device manager, or if the problem is with a setting in Mach3 itself.

    Any help is hugely appreciated.

Double check to make sure your parallel port is set for EPP in the laptop's BIOS.

Have you run the "Drivertest.exe" file, located in the root directory of Mach? Is the signal clean?
Are you sure you didn't assign the "step" pin as the "direction" pin, and vice-versa?

In the Device Manager make sure you have changed the Computer setting from ACPI PC to Standard PC and reboot, this will bypass some of the laptops power saving and timing features that can interfere with Mach 3
