Hi, I am just curious - are you still able to make those Mayan calendars using the direct drive pinion without the 3:1 gear reduction ? There have been some discussions about this sort of setup and a range of opinions.

I guess the more general question is - can you really make use the micro steps or are you forced to use full steps to avoid loosing steps ?

    Thanks

    Harry

To simply answer your question... Yes.

I use the G540 controller which is 1/10 mocrostepping.
I do not use gear reduction on my personal machines when it comes to the X/Y axis.
I only use gear reduction on the Z axis.
