    Talking CNC Cutting Tools

    Kemlontho,

Since I use mostly solid carbide tools, that is what I would suggest using. I do have an Ingersoll 2.0" cutter that is a 2-flute with inserts. It is set out of a shrink-fit holder. Our machines are older but we run this tool @ 5000 RPM at 40-80 ipm with a .050-.125 inch depth of cut. We also utilize Fullerton Ski-Carb End mills to plunge & face mill. Size of course depends on the profile radius. We use solid carbide 3-flute self centering drills, made by Fullerton for all of our Aluminum work.

If you are cutting steel, varible flute solid carbide end mills are your best bet. The ones we use are from Hanita / Kennametal. I have also used OSG. These type end mills will totally out produce a carbide insert tool in steel.

Now for coolant. There are oil based water soluable coolants that are good for Aluminum. We just use oil for coolant in all of our machines, Mobil Omnicrom. We use Hangsterfers Hard Cut 5418 oil on our steel jobs.

Hope this helps you get started.
