    Stepper drive

    Hi
i am Shirish. This is my first post since I did not figureout how to post.
This also gives idea about my age!

I am actively developing Stepper controllers and using L297/L298 combination
or L297 with N channel MOSFETs using Mos driver.
I also tried to use LSI chips.

The question is "When I use a stepper drive of Leadshine or Gecko, the current
drawn by the motor is propoortional to the load on the motor shaft. In case of my drive, even if motor runs at no load, the current through motor is as per current setting in the PWM circuit. This makes motor run hot in no load condition.
    Can anybody throw light ?

Those drivers (at least the Gecko) measure and regulate the current flow in the motor. The Linistepper also regulates current, and since it is open source, there is a page that explains how it works:
techref.massmind.org/techref/io/stepper/linistep/lini_wks.htm perhaps that will help explain what is going on?

    Stepper drive

    Happy Holidays,
Thanks for the reply. I could not open the link but from the address I coud figure out that it must be Open source Linistep drive link. I will try and again to see if that link opens up.
