    What is Sfm ?

    I have to rough turn S7 on CNC lathe ,What sfm should I Use ? Thank You.

    Depends on the cutting tool but a coated carbide insert should start around 500 sfm. Surface feet per minute. .008-.012 ipr (inches per revolution) feed rate roughing. Tweak from there.

    Thank You The Big JW,Yes I will use coated carbide inserts depth of cut.100 per side,does this sounds right.

    Sounds perfect for about 10 horsepower machine and good chucking on a substantial diameter with less than 1.5 times diameter overhang.
