Hello, all. I've enjoyed following this thread, and learned plenty here. Thought I'd share a file I vectorized and cleaned up the other day. Here's a pic, and the geometry is attached in .dxf format.

    Cheers!

    Luke

Edit to make the pic a thumbnail instead of full-sized. Thanks Gerry

Just watched a few videos, and downloaded them. I'll be buying them tomorrow. From the videos, it looks like SeamlessMaker alone is worth way more than the $30 for both. Looks like just the ticket for creating textures similar to Dan Sawatzky's Texture Magic collection.

    Trotline -

Thanks for providing the file. I had seen variations of that and one or two of them was on my list of conversions to do eventually.

I have been busy the past three days tearing down an old 8' x 8' home built wood frame mower shed and a firewood shelter that had gotten rather ratty looking. After those were out of the way I had a new 10' x 12' metal building installed yesterday. Now I can move my 48" deck riding mower, push mower, and some other yard tools out of the work shop and make room for adding a 4th 4' x 8' work table.

Meanwhile, the mini-router project is still waiting for some attention.

I forgot about your small router projrct C1, I guess I got mine done first well done to the point it works but the drivers need to be replaced with a G540. Come to think of it are they ever really done?
    Thank You.

It probably doesn't seem like it sometimes, but it won't be a problem tonight.

I'm tired out from building the ramp, which ended up being much more work than it seemed it would be. I started construction of a bench at the back end. Need three pieces of 2x4x10' lumber to finish it tomorrow. Then move some junk back into it from the old building. It needs some sort of skirting around it but that can wait awhile.

The G540 will be a good move. Heat sink it well and it should work for a long time. I have two of them now. The mini-router gets the newest one.

The oak side plates, front plate, and rear plate are ready to cut as soon as I decide how to handle some issues that are mostly procedural due to the 1-1/2" thickness plates. If I mess it all up, I'll just build a steel box tube version, ok?

I just lost all movement on my Y axis I tested the Y stepper hooking it up to the Z on my G540 and it works so I guess it is the G540. I have only had it around a year So I guess support will contact me Monday or Tuesday I filled out the contact form on the Gecko site..

Did you try the Z stepper on the Y output to see if that works?

If it is the G540 and it has not been sent back before, this repair will probably be at no cost other than postage to send it back.

Does it have a fault LED lit up? It could be a blown fuse in the driver circuit. Look closely at the DB9 connectors on the Y axis to see if any pins are pitted from arcing, broken off, or bent.

It has four red led lights one for each Axis lit and the green charge pump light on, the conector the Y looks good under my magnafiying glass. I wonder if they will fix it on the spot if I take it to them they are about a hour drive away or drop it off and go to the Woodcraft store and pick up a few things while they work on it.
When the Y stoped and I was down to the last radius cut on the Maire Corp. emblem I guess it is Red Oak firewood now. On Mach3 screen it showed a / sign across the image on the screen when it stopped I never seen that before..

Go into Mach3's Config/Ports and Pins/Output Signals, scroll down to the Charge Pump and Charge Pump2 signals and disable them if they are not already red X and 0. Click Ok, save the changes (at the bottom of the list in the Config drop-down menu) Close and restart Mach3 to see if the fault lights are out.

I forgot that there is a charge pump on/off slide switch on the G540. That should be OFF (down position). When the power to the G540 is off, slide the switch up and down a few times and leave it at OFF. It's possible that switch contacts have tarnished enough for it to not operate properly.

The reason I'm suggesting the charge pump stuff may be at fault (literally) is because when that activates for any reason it shuts down all four axes.

If you have an e-stop switch, you would need to reset that if it triggers from an impulse noise due to crosstalk in your wiring. If you have no e-stop switch, then there should be a jumper wire from pin 10 to pin 12 of the G540. If that is not tight in the connector it can cause all axes to stop when it momentarily gets a false trigger signal or excess mechanical shock.

Hi Lou, was looking through your build thread http://www.cnczone.com/forums/diy-cn...kit_build.html but I did not see a good picture of how you mounted your G540.
Did you mount a heatsink to it? We hardly ever hear of a G540 going bad so I'm just trying to figure out exactly why it died. I'm buying a second G540 soon and since I'm only running going to be running 2.5amp motors I'm wondeing if I need a heatsink.
    Thank You.

There is a doc on the Gecko site that shows the results of several temp measurements of the G540. For the cost of a PC axial fan ($15 if you are unlucky), I would just put one in directed at the back of the G540 and not worry about it ever again. Your DC power supply will thank you too.
    Cheers!

Finally broke down and bought V Carve Pro... which post processor you using for gcode? Figure I want the tool change stuff in it, I see mach 2/3 arc's stuff, but I recall having issues with that before in mach.. probably just use the 'gcode ats' one...

Glad I am now on 'vacation', maybe I can get a lot of cutting done.
