    Bridgeport Series I Motor Wiring

I have an older Bridgeport Series I mill with a 1.5HP US Motors motor on it. The wires were cut at the electrical box on the motor. How do I know which wires are which? I see there are two sets of wires bound together. One set has 4 wires while the other set has 5. Any help would be appreciated as I would love to get my mill going.

Do I see little bands wrapped around each wire about a quarter inch wide? Those may be the missing wire numbers. Take a look.

    I wish

Unfortunately, the labels say nothing. They are actually small copper clips that have been bent around the wire.

There should be three wires from the motor connected together, and then each of the 3 phases from your converter should hook up to 2 wires from the motor.

    Line 1 connects to T1 and T7
    Line 2 connects fto T2 and T8
    Line 3 connects to T3 and T9

connect T4, T5 and T6 togeter and tape off.
Thats about all I remember...please be safe if you give it a try.

They sure look like the ID bands to me, have you tried really cleaning them off?
This is a list of most motor connection details if you try and reverse engineer it.
    Connections
Nine connections is usually the typical double star connections for either 240/460v operation (parallel or series star).

Thanks guys. I can't say that I am 100% sure the labels say nothing. I need to clean them. I looked at the tags yesterday and didn't see any obvious writing on them. I will check when I get home.

Using the img below verify the setup
see image below look at the WYE configuration this is most likely what you have.
You can verify this with a ohm meter

The ID numbers were on the clips. There clips were so dirty that they had to be cleaner quite a bit before the numbers were visible. I can see the wiring on the label, even though it too is barely visible from the fire the mill was in. Thanks!
