    Manual Hot Wire Power Supply

    Hi all,

I'd like to cut some foam inserts for a gun case and I've been looking at building a hot wire cutter, but I'm not comfortable building a power supply from scratch, i.e. wiring up a transformer etc.

I was wondering if it's possible to use something like this http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=16854+PS and using a variable resistor on the DC output?

Any and all ideas are appreciated.

    Thanks,
    James

This is on an Australian site, I think it was originally published in an Aussie magazine.

Ah, cool. I assume something like this would work as well. http://www.electronickits.com/kit/co...or/CKMX033.htm

Also while searching since last night I came upon this site http://hotwirefoamcutterinfo.com/Hot...y/Welcome.html and he has used a tattoo power supply to run the hot wire.

Thank you for the link, I think I have enough info I can get this under way.

You might want to check out http://www.8linx.com
I think he uses a "variac" to power the hotwire.
