    V24, moving start point

I have a simple contour that I am chamfering. I want to change the start point.
I select Start Point in the Chamfer Cut Feature and I see the start point appear. One would think I could simply grab it and move it to where I want it. Apparently not. How do I move it?

    right click start point
right click modify, arrow should appear and high light geometry
start point will be at beginning, middle or end of a line
left click line to move arrow
if none of those places are where you need it to be
then use break in utilities to break geo. where you need it to be

That worked, thanks! Seems they went out of their way to make the UI obtuse. Oh well, onward...

    Climb milling

I have another issue with start point. If I select reverse direction on the start point it won't post in the reverse direction. It also won't verify.

Also, if after I select reverse direction I then compute new tools paths, my tool path changes to an inside profile rather than an outside profile. To get it back, I have to reslect geometry and then recompute toolpaths. however, this then puts the start points back to their original direction.

What is the step by step procedure for changing the direction of the start point (to climb mill) and then get it to take so it will Verify and also post?

You will also need to change the system compensation from left to right. You will find this under patterns when you run the wizard.

Thanks Jerry. Someone in the shop helped me figure out exactly that today. That turned out to be the root of several problems I was seeing. Once we changed the compensation, the start point worked as well as my toolpaths stopped moving to the other side which I thought was a bug.

That raises another question which perhaps you know the answer to. What is the difference between machine compensation and system compensation and when would I use one over the other and would I ever use both?
