    Sieg X1 help

    Hello all

What size stepper motor would you say that you would need to fit to the axises on the X1L mill When i mean size i mean how powerful?
Also do you have to change the leadscrews for ballscrews?

well you have a great little machine there.

    My conversion went like this

    200 oz/in on the X and Y
    300 oz/in on the Z

The X and Y are using the standard lead screws but i added a ballscew on the Z. I also counter weighted the head with a 20Kg weight.

Well that was what it started as i think the X and Y are running at as it was a unipolar drive but then went to a biopolar drive which pushed it up to around 250ozin.

the machine performance really good but it is limited, in ally i can push a 10mm slot drill full width with a 1.25 depth of cut at 200mm/min but that is with a belt drive running at 4000rpm.

Any way hope that answers the question.

Have a look at the SPG thread as i have made all the part for that conversion with the X1.
